Mayor's Corner

Message from the Mayor:
I hope everyone is tired of the wet, cold and snowy weather; I sure am. The snow was fun for the children and scenic for adults, but now it is time to warm up.
Carlisle Drive is finally open! The unusual winter weather as well as drainage issues caused delays on the completion of Carlisle. Hundley is now closed and, hopefully, with no delays, it will be completed in six weeks. The City worked closely with DCTA to make sure that two major roads were not closed at the same time. We thank DCTA for their cooperation in this matter. Once Hundley is completed, Main Street will be closed for the railroad work and realignment with Church Street. This improvement will eventually provide a straight path to Main Street from the I-35 Service Drive.
We have had two successful visioning sessions on the Swisher Road development with our consultant team—Paris Rutherford (Catalyst Development) and Alex Payne (Axis Realty)—providing market analysis and soliciting public input into a potential mixed use redevelopment of the former Payless Cashways property (now Unified Aircraft Military Vehicle Storage). The City is working closely with owners of the Unified Aircraft property on the future of that property being rebuilt to its fullest potential in order to benefit Lake Dallas and the whole Lake Cities area. One of the key elements in this redevelopment that we have been pursuing with Denton County Transit Authority is a train stop near Swisher Road. At this point in time the cost for capital improvements to support the station is too high for us to continue the pursuit.
Daniels Air Conditioning Company was just approved on their new location on Shady Shores Road on the vacant lot across from the Library. They have outgrown their offices and warehouse on Hundley Drive. In addition to the expansion of their business, the building will house three more business, plus lease out the old location for other new business.
If you have not been down Main Street lately, Sonic is gone. The old Sonic was there for thirty two years and was outdated. And a new “state of the art” Sonic will open in a couple of months. The new Sonic will be a nice anchor for the continued revitalization of Main Street.
The Swisher Courts project received site plan approval and will soon submit building plans for their first building—indoor volleyball and basketball. They plan to have this building open by August. I look forward to these and other positive changes in Lake Dallas, changes that will help the City and its residents financially.
Lastly, City Council approved a contract with FitCities to enter into the statewide physical fitness program/competition to get communities in better shape. Businesses, schools, governments, individuals will all be able to participate in essentially doing three hours of physical activities weekly. By April the program should be online so check our City website for further updates on the FitCities program.
Best regards,
Mayor Tony Marino
