Ombudsman Training

Friday, April 26, 2019

In partnership with the Lake Dallas Public Library and the City of Lake Dallas, the Area Agency on Aging is hosting Ombudsman Advocate Training in the Community Room of City Hall. Volunteer Ombudsmen set their own schedule to visit nursing and assisted living facility residents and advocate for their rights. As needed, they work with staff, family members and others to resolve residents’ concerns. To qualify, you must be at least 18 years old, complete three once weekly free local training classes, serve an internship, and agree to serve at least two hours per week in a local facility for a minimum of 1 year. No prior experience is required. Must comply with conflict of interest policy. Training covers the role of the ombudsman program, advocacy, negotiation and communication skills, residents’ rights, and nursing home rules and regulations.
