Missed a week? You can catch up by reading on your own. This book is available with your library card in Cloud Library, or you can also get a free copy from Project Gutenberg, a site that shares public domain literature.
We also start every storytime by discussing what came before, so you will not be lost even if you start in the middle of the book.
Not able to come in person? Join us online through our live stream. Follow this Zoom link.
What: A storytime for children wherein a classic juvenile chapter book is read serially and discussed. Each week, a chapter or two will be read from the same book until the book is completed. Discussion will take place before and after the reading, to first discuss what has happened in the story so far (and catch up those who missed a chapter or two), and after to discuss what was heard and to theorize what might come next.
Who: Children ages 7-12; any child who is ready to listen to, read, and/or discuss chapter books.
When: Thursdays at 4:30
Where: Lake Dallas Public Library
Why: This program develops literacy skills including comprehension, vocabulary, critical thinking, and literary techniques. In addition this program encourages learning patience and memory skills; in this day and age of instant watch shows, the children must wait a full week for the continuation of the story.
